Garden Ant Infestations in Sale, Timperley and Altrincham.

Flying ants are the scourge of many people in summer leaving many people to dread the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they know the summer will herald

Only the unluck people who have suffered it will know the true effects of flying ants in their own homes.

Having an infestation of ordinary wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their annual mating phase the position can become unbearable.

Ants often form colonies under the floors and in the wall cavities of our buildings and these colonies will survive for many years to come if left untreated and become progressively more persistent every year.

Our homes are warm and dry and provide the perfect places for a growing ant colony; even solid concrete floor is not a problem to and ant colony.

Our central heating systems maintains their metabolism even in winter and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, which is in January!

Ants like a sandy soil and there are many areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which have more ant infestations than most, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as regular ant spots.

Unfortunately it is during their mating phase that they are most annoying. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this often is pretty regularly around the middle to end of July.

Ants mate on the wing and around mid-summer the colony produces winged immature Queens and winged males which in nature would fly off and mate on the wing. Many thousands of these flying ants are released per colony and nests tend to time their release in order to mate with ants from neighbouring.

Normally this process starts after a period of days of hot, dry weather and will typically last for about a week or so although smaller releases will carry on throughout most of the summer.

Unfortunately when the colony is under the floor of the property the effects can be dreadful, literally thousands of winged ants are released into the lower rooms, aiming for windows as they head for the light.

This can be extremely distressing for some people leading to severe emotional trauma to the level that people learn to hate the summertime and have actually sold their house to avoid the plague of ants which they know will appear each summer.

The colder summers of 2007, 2008 & 2009 has meant that ant infestations were down on the preceding but ants appear to have a way of catching up and 2010 might be a particularly good year for them.

A lot of people who have this problem opt for DIY solutions with powders from DIY outlets etc but mostly these efforts do not work as they are not getting to the heart of the matter which is the nest itself, tucked safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.

Fortunately for many people the answer.

At Harrier Pest Prevention (subject to satisfactory site) we are able to remedy this problem and issue an extendable 3 year guarantee.

The process which is carried out mostly from the outside of the home, is totally safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling small holes into the cavity walls of the house, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.

This forms an uncrossable barrier over which the ants cannot go and together with a precautionary spray of the inside (if deemed necessary) will gradually bring the infestation to its end.

The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter remain open so it is simply a matter of topping up the wall cavities every three years to extend the life of the guarantee in three year blocks.

This procedure is best done out in the early spring however it can be done all year round.

As a very limited time offer in our quiet period we are offering 25 percent off the normalstandard price until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to travel further afield but this will be reflected in the cost.
